OSWEGO — Wanda L. Hevel, 92, of Oswego died Saturday, July 8, 2023, at home with her family beside her. She was born Jan. 4, 1931, in rural Chetopa to Jesse and Beatrice (Schertz) Eckles. She attended Piety Hill Elementary and graduated from Chetopa High School in 1949 as valedictorian of her class. She married William (Bill) Hevel on Feb. 4, 1950, in Bentonville, Arkansas. He preceded her in death on Jan. 21, 1985. They lived for a short time in Mound Valley and then moved in 1951 to Oswego, where she has lived ever since.
