HALLETTSVILLE — Newcomers embraced Czech heritage at the 28th annual Hallettsville Kolache Fest. Each year, the Hallettsville Chamber of Commerce puts on the Kolache Festival to celebrate Czech heritage locally through the titular fruity pastry. People come from all over to enjoy the festival, including Schertz residents, the Arnold family, and Houston resident Susan Lu, who made a point to be there. With people dancing to live music, shopping the various vendors, and enjoying good food and the multiple activities on offer, the Arnold family decided to give the kolache eating contest a shot after traveling an hour and a half to the festival.
